a video! hallelujah.

here is my big movie. all of this was done using a combination of aftereffects and finalcutpro (primarily aftereffects). the fire spinning was all shot in a super dark space and i was wearing black clothes. then i cut everything out of the footage that wasn't the fire fairly simply using aftereffects. i used two different video layers and masks to make the final product. the scene in the snow with the christmas train was the trickiest piece.

now we should all go buy fancy new computers that will run aftereffects flawlessly, unlike my wicked old powerbook!

love,
kelly

strange photoshop stuff

so, here are two of the images i made for a digital media class ages ago. check out my left hand on the burning stove photo. these were possible by using masks and tons of layers. i'm posting these just to illustrate how powerful photoshop can be. masking is a pretty rad tool that i think could allow us to transform/create really surreal images for animating.

so i got to priemere a bunch of my 07 portfolio vids on a hugescreen tv at a bar full of about 60 people last night it was just sans the audio because there was a dj spinning some good 70s breaks. this was after a bike ride with about 20 people. there were two sound systems, one on my tall and one on the back of this guys bike. i rocked the beginning of the ride with the robotspeak mix and he rocked the rest with some christmas mix crazyness. one conclusion i have come to is we need vj bounce in cd and dvd form, so we can bust them out anywhere and everywhere, you feel me?! and we all need to be able to give people cards. and the projector is going to be put to good use later this week. guerilla drive in sd style. whats up in sc?

on another note the helmet cam seems to be nowhere. but maybe i will find it in a gutter somewhere or see someone riding with it.

LIVE: FROM THE CUTS!

I made this edit to post on my blog. Edited in about 2.5 hours in Quicktime pro just cutting and pasting sections from videos off my digital camera.

I love the quality of the camera and can take up to 22minutes on a 2 gig SD card. Not bad just to film some one off stuff, like contained in this edit.
Ultimately I would like to be incorporating flash on all my videos, but since resources are currently limited, QTP will do for now. I would also like to spend some serious time throwing stuff together with iMovie08 on a macbook someday soon.

I love my friends.

hyphy priced hd cameras (sub 200 dollars)

anyone notice hd cameras are sub thousands now?

like these are 150 bucks new from amazon without coupons... hd 720progressive

http://www.amazon.com/Aiptek-GO-HD-Definition-Camcorder-Optical/dp/B000FVXZ2E/ref=pd_sim_p_title_4

not the best camera in the world, definitely not the best mic, but for such a price? definitely not a bad thing

silent still born

so you say you want to help with audio huh?

prove it.

help me find the things I need to start venturing into the groundbreaking world of technocolour talkies.,,

I want to get two wireless lapel mics like the ones we used in the community access skit.

what I'd like is a 2 channel thing with two mics that can record different levels on different tracks simultaneously, get it? so I can have one hidden microphone on one persons collar and one on the other. both unneffected by each other... -anything larger scale i'll use a shotgun...

I also need a shotgun...

i dunno what to get, I heard something about Sennheiser but I don't really know what that means or which one.... This is the most important thing in terms of film right now, we suck and we cant record proper audio for the life of us... -the h4 is at least clean but its omnidirectional, not good for most video purposes actually because we really need the shotguns limiting range and ask for the lapels, I don't know what type I need, but I know I definitely need em and two...

sc community tv war stories studio edit

heres a little ditty smurf and i worked on for our final project woith cabrillo'ss acting for the camera class. This was shot in Santa Cruz'z very own community television studio. i also worked boom mic on on one of the other projects.
the membership to use this studio is a little steep but it certainly
would keep us on our game and give us alot of good oppurtunities.

superstar

love you guys

outstanding headtrips

Ok, if you really want to know the reasons behind why I am withholding about my ideas sometimes is that. WHEN I TALK ABOUT THEM THEY TEND TO NOT COME TRUE.
So I try to just be quiet and make everything happen myself, this is bad. And completely against the intention of massive-exchange.
SO MAYBE ... just MAYBE if I put some shit on the table and state clearly where my heads at with these projects, perhaps some people won't think I'm blowing a bunch of hot air and might be wanting to jump on board so here we go...

Project 1
: Projections/Music
theme: darkness, rustiness, trashiness, grimey grindcore '08 style.
more or less this would be an expiriment for what I think could be a larger and more meditated performance piece. Phase 1 could simply be something like Adam, Eli, and myself set up in the big room with a bunch of dirty ass electronics and distorted drums and backwards glitch guitars. Andreas projects a mashup of dirty grimey snuff footage and old Black and white japanese horror movies (see Tetsuo the iron man). Hopefully the end result is something new and excititing ... if not, its back to the drawing board

Project 2
: Live music
Straight up, I want to REALLY be in a band again. And to some degree I feel like I'm in 2 right now.
The stuff that me Mikey, Chris Lynch, Agler, and Tommy put down a while back was really exciting to me. We somehow, however lack the time, resources, and most importantly the central organization and motivation to keep the project BANGING on ALL CYLINDERS ALL THE TIME. We have grown a lot as a group but there is WAY WAY WAY WAY more that we can do with those people.
Live drums, live bass, live keys, non-live drums, non-live bass, non live keys, other peoples tracks, video mashups... ALL OF IT some of it or none of it .. I don't care but its killing me to see us do nothing. Largely my fault because I've been a big 'enabler' of progress on this project, I keep giving the same excuse of
"oooh .. I have work"

Project 3
: Music production
Since I became soley a freelancer at Gadgetbox a few things have happened. First off, I've become more confident in my style and my ability to run my own sessions and not need my hand held. Sick.
Secondly, my love and apreciation for the art is coming from a totally new and more sincere angle now. I love working with people, I love hearing their ideas and helping them materialize them. I prioritize this over ALL THINGS,
over me, over narwallagram, over massive, over portland, over evan

OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE. To see the shit through to the end and give it my ALL, no matter whos feelings are at stake.

What I really want to do ... what I REALLY REALLLY want to do is:
Refine style, technique, and musicallity through the act of being personally involved as a player, producer, live remix engineer, ect on personal music projects (ie. ones that i am personally in creating and performing in)
Through the act of doing this I wish to travel to other studios for the purpose of recording tracks and making custom dank-ass sample banks. I can see how other people aproach the art of recording sound and absorb more interpersonal knowledge.
Through doing this I hope that I might be able to travel to different areas and HELP people. Meet bands in all sorts of spheres of culture, help em develop whatever the fuck it is that needs to get developed, and work out some sort of omni-schedule that enables that to happen.

(somewhere ... near Olympia a band cries out for help)
"OOH! PLEASE HELP ME ... These mixes are good ... but theres so much of this '06 Linkin Park style glitch sounds all over it ... Surely there must be a danker option"

*dun dun dun DA!* R2 is here with his mighty audio beef patties.

I hope I'm not being TOO idealistic with these goals but I just want to get the damn thing done, and done CLEAN, and BIG... and bootybastic ... can't forget booty

Do ya know your alphabet, Sugafree?

R2 is in complete agreeance with all the things posted below (especially the science contained within the VLOG).

My apologies to my massive breatheren but shit has been REAL in the audio depot for R2. December has been busy for me. I finished my first LONG term record with a client I've been working with off and on since March at Gadgetbox so that was super choice, and on the 28,29,30, and 31st I aim to do the same with yet ANOTHER big album project.

I mentioned on my blog that I met the new Gadgetbox intern the other day. His name is Gabe and he just graduated the UC as a music major. He's got his shit pretty on point. He plays in a live band that plays jazz tunes in a hiphop style with MCs and the whole 9 yards.

SAMPLES...
ok , if Massive is the place for ideas then heres one that has been stewing for well over a year or 2.

SAMPLE CAMP
(agler made mention of wanting to lock away with the Backflip crew (and more) and do like STRAIGHT SAMPLING FOR A WEEK)
This is essential for ME. I mean, by all means GET ON THIS TRAIN but if no body sees the value in this than fuck .. it'll be a camp of 1 but it doesnt have to be.
We can sample songs, records, iTunes libraries, videos, youtube, DVDs. We could spend just a lot of focused time filling up harddrives with useful media that resonates with us. Then we have a lot of ammo to use to create with ...

we can even make cool little shirts that say
"SAMPLE CAMP '08" and stuff

btw, the godfather of this idea: Evan Rosen, is in town ... and says he wants to kick it mad Sweetish... so ya bes make way. You remember what happened last time homie rolled through?

linux, cs3 pirating, arkoas webpost and flash AND VLOG

I PUT THE VLOG AT THE END SO YOU'LL READ FIRST

but come on baby lets talk, I thought i'd let people know what i did today....

first off, i got a little white pc laptop with amd64 running 733mhz. its my dads but he doesn't care, and granted its not very powerful (733 just barely faster than the iphone) its a good chance to do some stuff..

so first off i'm about to install linux. i'm thinking ubuntu but i'm going with the kde filetype instead of gnome so i'll use kubuntu. kde4.0 comes out sometime in early 2008, and thats going to mean crazy things, most especially hidef vector based "oxygen" (os x aqua interface ripoff) with widgets and dashboard, but better than apples... -its also going to be os x and windows compatible meaning anything we write will work on macs or pcs too, but probably anything written in 2008on will work on ubuntu...

open source is a big deal, we can pirate and it works great, but theres no reason why free software cant suit are needs and it doesn't even have to be that hard to assemble the tools

ubuntu studio is a package that includes a bunch of media editors like gimp, pitivi video editor, kino video editor, cinepaint (frame for frame editor)and lin-stopmotion (guess what thats for) theres a great equivilent to anything, from blender for 3d to cinelerra for premiere, to inkscape to replace illustrator

theres a great program called synfig.

K? SYNFIG YOU GOT THAT SYNFIG

GO LOOK UP SYNFIG RIGHT NOW

fuck animestudio fuck toonboom, this is the shit right here, and it works on mac too, because thats the point of linux, asshole...

its great, synfig is really amazing, it even has the layer concepts that toonboom implements...

i'd like to see linux take off, specifically i'd like to see a thumbnail based editor like the new imovie 08. -there could be an editor that relies on no rendering and uses autosaving that could be COMPLETELY UPGRADABLE AND PACKAGE-ADAPTABLE meaning PLUGINS and EFFECTS and shit like playing backwards...

theres no reason why it doesnt exist sept people havent had time and sheer laziness, but thats why theres way to port shit to linux...

i doubt there will be much of a conversation about this here, but thats something i plan to bring to discussion at some linux forums. -we as a community of creative-users need to really assess; -what is imovie 7? what why and how does it work so well and effectiently? I bet you its really really simple, -but who knows...

okay now on to pirating...

I got cs3 running fine, and faux-registered...

PAY ATTENTION OR YOU'LL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP
I used evan's copy of design to launch the adobe uninstaller. I UNINSTALLED EVERYTHING. you need to start fresh.

then I removed even's shit and then i opened, err i couldn't open cs3...

I torrented toast 8.0.3, I updated my iserial reader (www.serialz.to) to the latest with the newest serial package. serialz.to puts all the serials to every program in an archive. it is legal to have the empty progra, the archives themselves you get from wherever .to is...

i opened iserial reader, looked for toast, found the latest version, double clicked the serial to copy the text and pasted to toasts installer which then ran.

once finished, i double clicked the cs3diskimage01.toast, ran it, double clicked cs3diskimage02, ejected the first once 2 started running, premptively mounted disk 3, then 4 and completed install..

I then unplugged my ethernet and turned off the airport.

I opened photoshop and input one of the serials that came with the torrent in the readme.

it asked to register and I said, "hey okay lets do this..."

it got confused and said, well I guess you could always register by phone...

I did, it prompted me to call and give them the initial code.

then I emailed the keygen to myself, and opened it on the pc laptop

then I ran the keygen, I put in the inital code, it spit out an activation number, I wrote the code on the mac in the adobe registration window, it said, "aiight, dats legit." -to which I replied, "homie thou art trippin" but it was under my breath and adobe didn't hear, -I think it might have been on tesimin or at least tesinol or somethin...

well in any case, that worked fine, and now I have after effects, premiere, flash, dreamweaver, illustrater, photoshop and whatever else.. soundbooth i guess and a few others...

but yeah, cant say i'm as excited as i thought i would be, frankly i'm more interested in getting my linux shit together and getting some of these bomb ass programs running, -you know theres a lot of love in the open source community. making games and programming is probably even easier for people off drugs... as long as we're the rat pack, we could get some help with some of the shit if we put this in forum form....

millz, i seem to remember we were working on a project in frisco that you never had time to show me the rehearsal footage from. why dont you put it up here so we can talk about it and work on it and get ready to film it? if you dont think the footage should be seen by so many of the masses, you could at least upload it using blogger to the massive so its not on youtube only on the massive, but anyone who wants to see the massive can see it. -personally i think thats way cool and a great way of doing it.

now on to the shit that i should have asked people about...

I somehow got the email to someone from arkaos, though its probably not anyone really really special... I was asked about my opinions and what we do, so I gave a run through... I hope this response was okay:

"I don't know exactly how to explain what we do, I guess thats why its cool. I've been using arkaos since I was seventeen, but initially started out as both a traditional filmist and a radical innovative media software user. -We the narwallagrams (myself (andreas nicholas) and two friends ryan lotz and mike millard), in santa cruz, california set out to create trippy things rather than just see them. we first used arkaos for a woods rave running off the demo. -we used nothing but lowres mpegs made from flash versions of old 80s cartoons ripped from youtube. the results were so great that we pretty much dedicated our lives to arkoas and the furthing of both our understanding of it as well as our possession of it, and hopefully eventual contribution to its code.

-we invested in arkaos after an acid test we ran and have virtually been on tour mixing videos ever since. the initial 80s cartoons overlayed on top of each other, was so great, so unique and original that we could immediately see the potential for much more. we created stop motion works and filmed scenes specifically for effecting. -still what we have found to be our most useful feature and have done many many shows using prodominately was the luminance keyer. The live keying is really incredible, and matches/surpasses a physical mixer in many ways, not the least of which being transportability. We were even able to go burning man with it, and successfully projected video mixing, both hyphy cartoons and a modern and innovative approach to pornographic mashing projected on surfaces for texture. There is a grungy independent aspect to our group, we project out of vans and in old warehouses, in the woods off generators, in south central la during a gang party and of course in the middle of the desert at burning man. -each time we were able to incorporate our mashes with new material gathered on site, -my favourite being videos of their collected graffitti from around south central effected blew their minds.

We currently mix are own homemade flash cartoons and created video, however we still incorporate are archived effected footage of earlier works. specifically the girls cartoon show "jem" and japanese early seventies anime "tekkaman"

I feel that whatever it is that we made is a manifestation of who we are and broadly reflects our culture, in fact the worlds... we are the cartoons that we saw growing up, and we are the effects that only our technology can apply, this is specifically pop culture 2007, -works are available for preview on youtube.com/narwallagrams, and on my personal vlogpage www.youtube.com/stemcellfilms (look at "tekka: pixelation of the century")

we are spending a lot of time filming new material and creating flash cartoons to replace copywritten material, although I can't say I don't plan to continue using heavily effected versions of jem and rainbow brite, transformers and winnie the pooh. -these relatable images are symbols that we all identify with and have predespositions to, stories about, so seeing live effected versions of images we are familliar with new music creates a bedazziling and provactive effect.

are current project is to reengineer images from both copywritten material, public domain and our own generated works into new, hyphy flash cartoons. -we've done some of this already, but along the way we have come to some conclusions and solutions that all lead to much bigger ideas...

-for one, it makes sense that instead of making 20 cartoons, you could apply the same actionscript code to multiple files. this way the cartoon would be more focused on objects and points transforming and moving across xy on a geometric plane as well as effecting each other. -the benefits besides time saving are the ability to compile live cartoons and to convert "actionscriptoons" into games, that is replacing assigned movements and functions with controllers. flash cartoons could have multiple objects that could be effectively controlled, making flash games a very useful medium for vjing.

we plan to begin producing vjgames and have a set of them ready for burningman 2008. realistically we can have them much sooner...

here is our ambition however:
we would like to see, or even help, reprogram arkaos to fully take advantage of flash and have all aspects properly run. -that is full flash and actionscript3 viewing, support and control through both the keyboard and/or a midi controller. we plan to create flash based video games that are completely customizable and live, incorporating arkaos mixing, specifially luminance and chromakeying.

we are currently on tour and mashing, but we plan to take a lot of time on this one.

It's been exciting to be on the forefront of video mixing, and I cannot say we have seen any vjing that we like as much as ours. but vjgaming is a whole new thing, that we probably shouldn't even be talking about...

righton and heres the vlog i've been talking about uploading:

this big joke

this is a video that my buddy lily weed made in our digital art class. i've probably seen it 50 times, and i still can't get enough of it. she is a generally brilliant and absurd lady, currently living in china. BLAM (for more info). WHAM (for more videos).

love,
kellypeach

massive what?

okay i'll get my shit together and vlog soon, but for now fuck this country i'm moving to sweeden,
thanks to millz for finding this discobelle .net

reminds me of what we want out of our vlog, though i could be wrong, it looks like its put together by massive aficionados as opposed to exchangers... that is I think this is enthusiasts making their blog, which is great, but yeah lets spend more time problem solving with the massive...

one thing is the thought about how this is public. I personally want it public and I like the way it is now, people can read our shit, we can direct people to our shit, and no one posts but us...

there is room for as many posters as you want, but I found googles compromise for people not associated with our group.

we need to setup an email address at blogspot so that anyone (non massive's even) can send their shit to the email and it can be posted (either automatically or after one of us checks for content) I don't want spammers, but google is REALLY good about blocking spam and with the added massive human screener seems useful too. -we maybe dont need this right now, but its good to know about.

I've heard talks that some people want to shut this down, or at least keep it small. I'm not super down with the massive exchange if we cant show other people what we're working on, i've gone and shown multiple people the massive whenever I need to cite something going on in our collective lives... -however I understand keeping up with the content and trying not to embarrass ourselves, -however thats a ridiculous inhibiting concern...

so yeah lets ask each other for help more, and lets ask each other questions more... -I don't even know how much any of us are working together.

by the way, what the hell is even and beargriffin upto, why dont you guys let us know?

__________________________________________________
[ THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ON MY MIND IS THIS]
----------------------------------------

what the fuck is this shit to you guys? I would like [and I doubt this will happen} that EVERY FUCKING ONE OF YOU posts once this week. -with a bloggerPHOTO/VIDEO or an in page media link of some kind, video/audio/software(flashetc)/picture or something that applies to you

this is a scrap book. filled with cocktale napkins and photos, videos and links to photos and videos. -maybe you need an audio based streaming site, like maybe you need a youtube for music. -if you don't know ask us, I bet someone here knows one (hint hint) but whats the point if you don't post?

please everyone assume that we want to listen to each other. because I definitely want to hear from you.

I'd like to see in-page photos of shit around your house you're working on... I'd like to hear at least 5-10 minutes worth of audio from your house with your friends chillin out or whatever. -i'd like to hear you talkin or jamming with your friends... I really would. -even if theres no video, really just put it up for us.

start throwing your thoughts together damn it! start combining mediums, this is a free html weblog, I don't know if you understand what that means... we can do ANYTHING, ANYTHING! we have the power to create a video game, text based or otherwise. -free and posted on someone elses server. I cant believe all the potential that we're ignoring.

so please, lets build this tower of babel

yo you guys this is from kelly
i am gonna send the massive logo by evan and the paul sweet photo

so, i talked to a buddy of mine yesterday who works at a screen
printing shop, and he offered to burn me a few screens if i was
interested. do you have any really involved designs that you would
like a screen of? i was thinking of doing on of the two shots of you
upside down, but if you have anything that would be too tough to
stencil send it my way and i'll see what i can do!

discobelle has hot tracks always

so i just got my bike seat stolen off my bike at cabrillo , but more importantly i just wanted to make sure everybody has the pleasure of checking out discobelle. net now anf again, cus that shit makes me hot and bothered .

LOOK AT THIS!

flash games are easy check these out, think about how easy it would be to turn them into photobased graphic games. i mean mario, road rage, street fighter, space invader? each 2d game based on x or y axis movemnt, sometimes you move other times the level moves and you stay the same, some are a combination of both, all we can steal pretty much without much shame because they are free made fangames using copywritten material, and we will reverse engineer them into live interactive vjing... beat that shit.

go to this site check out all the games
http://www.mariogame.info/index.html

it is a great site, full of free mario rip off games, but this one is special because it includes a built in level builder and changer, I mean thats shit we need live.

this friday

coming up this friday, Ahmy is having a burlesque show at the Hyde gallery. Ryan Agler right now is telling me that he ran into (disco-ball) Chris downtown and that he's going to be involved on this event with a grip of other people. I'm not sure what else is happening besides the burlesque, but it seems like a bunch of shit might be goin on.

Anyways, she said they want to pay us a cut out of the raffle that they are going to hold, so we might be comin out with some cash.

The problem as I understand it, is that Andreas won't be here on Friday. So me and Mills are going to have to bust this one solo (and on bikes too, most likely! yay). I believe that Kelly Peach is down to let us install and use Arkaos on her laptop for the show, but I, personally, have not asked her.

They want to know if we can rehearse with them on Thursday...
My sisters phone number is 917-2013 if you want to talk to her directly but here is an email she shot me about what she hopes we can pull off for the visuals:

Opening song: life is just a bowl of cherries.
no dancing during this number, so you can be as elaborate as you want. cherries, balloons, red stuff.

next...

Classic stripper music... you know wahhh waaaahhhhh.... trumpets and stuff...
the dance is the balloon popping act.
if you can make the visuals to this one have the holes on the side, like a film strip rolling, and maybe langerei floating around...

transition is to some more big band jazzy stuff, and we sweep up the balloon parts, and confetti from the first number. \

next...

the pink room. we are going to have a strobe light for this number. if possible, i want you to turn it on for us.
projection, nothing moving, but we want the image of a red curtain, like in twin peaks.. the song is called pink room off of the fire walk with me sound track.

then another transition. the music is the tool organ music from the enima album. we will be just changing.

next...

rendez vous. this is the creepy bdsm dolls. the music is french. its from the tripletts of bellville soundtrack called rendez vous. if you could,
we want the visuals to be more film strip stuff, really gritty. you know? like a really old movie, with lines, and scratches in the film.

then another transition to some funkey disco with the sounds of a woman most likely being pleasured orally. something discoey maybe?
bright colours, sexy women with afros would be cool. james bondy shilouettes, or fanta girls would also work. you know.

then the umbrella dance. this is our grand final. its ultra dreamy. its to the goldfrapp song 'uk girls (physical)' and we dance with umbrellas.
visuals, maybe bubbles, slow blury things, birds, timelaps flowers, timelaps sky. timelaps clouds. especially the timelaps stuff if you can.

then our closing music will be thank heavens for little girls. this is an easy one, just a bunch of cute girls and girly stuff.

when i get home i can tell you how long the tracks are.

im so happy yall can help! it warms my heart.

hugs and kisses
-ahmy

so yea .... I can start working on this on Monday. I hope you can help me with it Mills, I think we can pull it off. It'll be a fun bonding project!

Anyways ... keep me in the loop, I'll keep ya'll there too.
Rock!

big post

so something that I think people misunderstand is that we all need to be BLOGGING, as well as VLOGGING and the key differences being you blog practically anything (consider it a cocktail napkin or you'll never succeed in life at least not with the help of others) and vlog things that are happening, that is, not just things you are proud of...

having said that, these are my latest three vlogs, and this blog is an apology to myself for not blogging everyday... I get the feeling that the format for success is personal blog, vlog, and then posting a blog about your vlog on the collective massive exchange blog (which could someday become a vlog)

fuck it... here it goes:

heres a flash cartoon i liked

this ones from france

heres a trailer for xanadu:

finally: this punk makes military grade 8 foot flatscreens, meaning he builds them and programs them... but buy a multitouch interface from china and woop dey it is in seventeen inches... -can't wait for apple to get their shit together? buy the fucking chinese one asshole! -oh and learn linux, and cactus...

right on,
and by the way, if anyone didn't know we have our van accomplished, that it has a 1000watt pure sinewave inverter and an additional deep cycle battery, and it runs two projectors and has room for the computer and 4terabytes, we do.

hey you know what, fuck it flash is the fucking shit. all there is is flash... we need to get up on that shit, and we're doing it right now...

thats the shit bitchets

check out papervision
http://blog.papervision3d.org/
they have a 3d paperfishtank (it takes a long time to load and you think its frozen but its not)
http://www.papervision3d.org/

but they have a 3d star wars game in flash and other shit as well

at adobe they relased this thing that you can basically do all the apple cover flow shit and control some sweet tagging with the wii controller in this video

we need this right now,...

there was something I saw about 3d spinning nova's made of individual star dust layers that were 3dimensional clouds of gas, its crazy...

also theres some faux3d aspects I thought some of you, at least my and ryan should note:

check out these two specifically:
http://www.freeworldgroup.com/games4/gameindex/3dlogicgame.html
http://www.1888freeonlinegames.com/submitgames_play.php?id=1066
http://www.freeworldgroup.com/games2/gameindex/fwgpong.htm

I don't know how to embed them into the page but that would be awesome if someone could show me.

one great site that will show you a lot of amazing things you can do and give you a great deal of help is kirupa

check out this simple script
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/camera_panning.htm

theres random colour generaters and controllers
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/color.htm

theres some pretty cool ones, the 3d pong is pretty neet, whatever

BUT HERE IS THE MONEY SHOT
if you want to fuck around with some hot shit
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/more_panning.htm

now, one thing is obviously material. I say shit stolen food tastes better, remember that anything and everything from the 20th century is copywrited, but ONLY the 20th century, have fun with pretty much all world art, even america's before 1916...

no one can really sue you for making a flash video out of picasso's starving musician...

but you can always make your own material, especially with the help of this:
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/flash8/video/illustrationOptimization.htm

using adobe shit you can smooth out lines and get some pretty amazing results with a mouse, let alone wacom tablets...

massive update

first and foremost, hi! It's good to be back communicating once again through massive. Though my involvement on this board has been sparse this past month, lots of progress has been made by its members. The Narwallograms rocked the bay area and got real paid. Paul Sweet was able to sucessfully chill out some of the harsh vibes that were surrounding its upcoming shows. A new camera has been purchased by Senor Mikey Mills, with which he has been documenting EVERYTHING. He has made a much of short edits of the 'Trash Crew' mashing bikes all around town. He has captured all the amazing performances that occured at the Halloween Vulcan Space Party.
We have been talking extensivly about how to clean up things with our media:
Our beats at home need to be solidified, practiced, and then recorded well.
Our graphic identity and website(s) need to be developed in order to release our videos, short films, arkaos mashups, visual presentations, ect.
We need to add more of our own images and content to our VJ sets, not just things we rip from elsewhere. Me Mikey and Andreas agree that this will be the primary thing that gives our VJ sets meaning and message.

That being said, I am still in need of Flash CS3 and other adobe tools. Evan said he would upload the files to his firm's FTP or email me a DVD once he got his paycheck. Either is fine.

My cello phone is most certainly broken right now and I apologize to people who have been trying to connect up with me. I try to still check my voicemail daily and my email whenever I'm in front of a computer. I'm going to get a replacement phone sent to me this week.

One of the awesome hip hop artists who played at the Vulcan party, Forrest Day, contacted us about doing visuals for their gig on Friday, Nov 16 in Berkley. I emailed their bassist and told him we would do it. Rad.

I'm currently working on a story board for a mixed media cartoon I want to design/film with the rest of the Paul Sweet crew (and Andreas too). I'm going to need help scanning stuff into the computer, designing 2D characters by hand, filming sets, and I would like to compile it all out in flash and set it to music. I will get in touch with people about more of the specifics once I finish drawing out all the shots in the story board. MILK!

gigs baby

hey whats up have ya'lls lives froze up ? I know shit is happening!
Narwallograms played two shoes in two cities last weekend. Five eyed hand asked us to do what we like to do at 5 Galaxies in San Francisco and and then on Sunday we hit the walls of Moes Alley for the second time in the last few months and were so privlidged enough to be able to play for the headliner, Garaj Mahal both ngihts as well. clips will be imported shortly. Narwallograms are rolling out again tomarrow night to hit the walls of "the Warehouse" to get fresh with "The Byron Space Circus" straight up fool. but do we have buisness cards? no.

scripts, cgi robot

as much as I have a problem with not being able to stop the flow of ideas I have, I also seem to invariably go through periods of steriodal growth and arrested development.

the jem game has yet to materialize as did the 2ndact demon short, though both have been video rehearsed...

but this is cool, my robot is nearly done, I thought I'd post a picture. special thanks to kevin, a kid with blender in watsonville...

introducing sambo!

basically, I'll start with a short filmed in the evening about him crash landing in a girlbands backyard after his planets destroyed. good practice with placing a cgi object layer on top of a real background...

then, greenscreen girlband music video with a robot, yes glamourous!

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

So The Narwallograms are VJing two events this weekend for the band Five Eyed Hand.

jem sparkle tekkaglitter glitch video

so check it: I went on myspace and found a random indie 8bit artist in russia called uoki toki, asked them if they would be down with letting me to mash a video together in arkaos and put up on youtube with their song. He was like, "yes, your videos I like, sorry bad english!"

well I put it up all jammed with what we do, -and with russian cartoons no less! you should see his russian livejournal googletranslated, people are like, I counted it!

sept 22 footage

hey so difficulties with youtube, we need something that doesn't have a 10 minute/100mb file limit because it's pretty hard to compress a paul sweet show into 10 minutes, especially since its hd which leaves more like 9...

I digress,

missings some bands, we have more footage to assemble..

NETTLES ARE METAL

So we successfully threw a a black metal in the nettles show last wednesday the 4th. Skraeling and Wolves in the throne room played. about 100 folks or so showed up. it got a little hecktic right before the show but that shit went down. no cops. the projections went well but the computer went into sleep mode once and toby was late making things a little more stressed. the tape recorder that was supposed to be used for ambiant music is still missing. there was a scabbies scare. that has made a few around the house weary about the nov 3rd show. but it was wonderful that we could have a show on the property that could end by 11:30 and we could have a mini danceparty in the kitchen aftewrwards. good shit. i havbe 2 photos to post but i say wqe post some audio, video and scan the flier. straight up

Tactical Encounter # 3: Paul Sweet Revisited

next weeks events

so i believe next friday citezens of santa cruz are going to once again going to try to re-claim the streets. A sound system bike is in the works and i see huge oppurtunities to project, maybe even mobily, fingers crossed. i will be buying a deep cycle battery before then. but it looks lik we are going to need multiple invertrs to run computer/ projector together. either way i say we make some throwies for the even!! i know i'm going to al least. and we need to get andrea on here, and R2 what happened to getting more housemates massive. **i say we contact the guerilla drive in folks and see what they have up their sleeve. this seems like a perfect event to collaborate at. lets go big in the streets next friday and not get anything confiscated, lost, or broken!

also we have the show at the cotton cany palace the following day so i say we set up and play with some patches in the big room sometime earlier next week

this saturdays show

hey so it is wedensday and we meet to put together saturdays event tonight. i can only hope it will be as productive as the first meeting for the last show. i wonder how much sobriety will come into play. anyways so we need to fill out the job chart, we need to clearly define each position in writing and get that into the computer tonight. we need to get fliers into the hands of a hype crew (another position) and we need to figure little things like when we can project and i am going to present the idea of me and Alex doing our pieces somewhere near the beginning of the show and then just having a third board for kits to to write on. also the alcohol situation needs to thought out and so on. and maybe we could even watch a little bit of the 8ths events.

PS i just started my new job today. i learned how to vent gas from a "g-tube" which entails atatching a tube and suction syringe into a little valve stuck in a babys abdomin and sucking out the air that he cant burp out along with his stomach contents and some mucus and then re pumping the stomach contents and mucus back in. and i changed my first diaper i ever. word. dolla dolla bill yall.

Massive productions

All is well with the massive kids down south. Last night the massive hooked up a san francisco house party hard. along with an experimental noise musician, smurf and millz got projections going on the inside of a garage door. minds were blown. kegs we drained. the house was stoked and welcome us back to rock it again (and possibly bigger and outside) soon. then millz cought a nice cat nap into santa cruz, eli got dropped off and Smurf pulled the first shift down the 1, because he felt like taking the scenic route, so millz wakes up in big sur and the two take a dip. then millz pulls second shift and the two arrive in san diego by 1pm. today we filmed Millz and his cohort do some roller art at a freeway underpass. clips are being imported from that to be projected this evening.we are also importing footage of alot of the kids at the parties graff, its gonna be good. last nights event was also filmed. shit is running smoothly except smurfs computer doesnt seem to want to take in discs. the two should be departing from san diego around 1 tomarrow. san diegos temp and attitude are wonderful.

there needs to be a proper post with media from the 8th party
a burning man pst need to show up as well.
millz will attempt to work on both later this week.
peace massers

this site is important if you want an inverter, true sine wave, etc..

http://www2.northerntool.com/inverters.htm

True Sine Wave or Modified Sine Wave?

Power inverters produce one of two different types of wave output:

* Modified Sine Wave
* True Sine Wave

Modified sine wave inverters deliver power that is consistent and efficient enough to run most devices adequately. These types of inverters are the most popular and affordable. They are also small and highly efficient. The Vector power inverter line is based on modified sine wave technology.

True sine wave inverters are the most expensive, but they also deliver the most consistent, highest quality wave output. Some sensitive equipment requires a true sine wave, like laptop computers, tool battery chargers, professional audio/video equipment, certain medical devices and variable speed tools. If you aren’t sure if the device you want to use requires a true sine wave or not, call the manufacturer to ask. Any AC device will run on a true sine wave inverter, whether it requires it or not.

pretty sure cool people like even know this already, but thought It was postable anyway.

22nd FLYER

to be resolved:
- how much are you charging at the door?
- should there be a start time?
- should there be an address/parking directions?
- did I forget anything?

I drop knowledge like a clumsy encyclopedia salesman

What up illin chilluns,

Quick note if you didn't get an email update - spurred by a discussion of bike-funk with R2 earlier, I created a Mobile Systems page on the wiki...I thought it was in documentation, but apparently it ain't. If anybody knows how to move wiki pages once created, this one should be in documentation. It provides links for how to set up bike mounted audio and projection, including GRL's Laser Tag. I have some detail pictures of our projection bike on my flickr , but it's in a private set so you have to be one of my contacts to see it. Wait, scratch that, I just realized I can add them to the MX Flickr Group - and so that's what I did.

On the mobile audio tip, there's an installment of the international Mobile Music Workshop going down as a part of the Conflux Festival in Brooklyn. They have really good documentation of the last 3 years of the workshop in the archive section of the MMW website.

Tangent: here's this live electronica band called Simian Mobile Disco, and I heard they're pretty good. They prolly have youtube vids cuz they just played some big shows in NYC.

Also let it be known that I'm already on top of the flyer for the show on the 22nd. The art is done and now that all the bands are confirmed I'm just gonna set the type and I'll post it here asap so you guys can have em printed for the show on the 8th.

schedules

we need to follow millz example and put up our schedules..

right now i'm only signed up for video editing and photolighting

monday wed. 9-11:30
wed. 2-5:30

snoogens

september parties

so the harsh/dipity show is 4 days away. Cyd pulled through hard with 4 walkie talkie, a nice chash box, a couple security jackets and apparently some gentemen to fill them, so legit, i knew she was waiting to bust out. she is down to sit down and meet about the show tonight at 10. The main points i want to bring up this evening to be figured are, Can i get in contact with this kid doing art to solidify details, lets get some sort of crude spreadsheet going of timeslots for people to do shifts for: driveway, parkinglot, security, bar, vj, DOCUMENTATION, and kitchen.what sort of alcohol should be bought and where the money earned should go.? and how and where people pay for the show and what shows that they paid.

for documentation i think it would be really cool if we could have someone on photo and someone on video and we could get a little snippet of both on here in the following week. i am glad to offer my services for either,

lets flier cabrillo, coffeeshops, music stores, and surfshops!

as far as the 22nd i would really love to start working on ideas for the flier now so that we could have some at the show SATURDAY lets set up a brainstorm session.

as for the Vj set up for the 8th i would like to have a little ripping party with andreas and r2 in the next two days, i get out of school at 9 both days so lets think somewhere between 10 and 1am. lets get everything out and do a runthrough for ourselves.

P.S. my school schedule is the following
mon 7-9:15 pm (drawing)
tues 2:10-4:45 (math)
wed 2:30- 4:40 (vid editing) 7-9:15 (drawing)
thurs 2:10-4:45 (math) 6-10:15 (welding)

cheers!

Sept 22nd Update

After talking to the rest of the household and the bands involved and after the number of artists that had to drop from the lineup we have decided that we need to scale back the size of the show on the 22nd. No outdoor stage, we at least need to stay moderately chill with the neighbors, especially given the number of shows coming up in the fall season.

Looks like as it stands now its going to be an evening with:

STRENGTH (portland, confirmed)

SUGAR & GOLD (sf, confirmed)

the HARSHMELLOWZ (sc, confirmed)

the WALKING DEAD (sacremento, confirmed)

and possibly some other band that S&G knows but I think it might be 1 too many bands in that case.

Luckily the harshmellows don't have a very complicated setup, so having a staff of people that are SUPER on top of it will be the key to making this event happen smoothly. We will need tight security, permanant staffing at the top of the driveway, people manning the bar and taking money all night. We'll need a lot of help from friends, but yanno ... it'll hopefully all work out in the end.
ROCK!

dROID bEATZ

http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifI'm excited to report that I have just booked some personal studio time with Mr. Andy Zenczak of the infamous, Gadgetbox Studios.

I've requested that on either Monday Sept. 24 or Tuesday the 25th, that Andy brings his mobile rig and some microphones over to the Paul Sweet big room for an evening of dirty, stanky, busheiki drum tracking.

What I hope to get out of this is some illy B style drum loops that we can then use to chop, loop, process, and sample to our hearts content. Seems like it will be a good oppurtunity for anybody to suggest any ideas and feels to me that they would love to get loops of for the future. SOOOOO, what I could use from the whole MX crew, besides love, support and encouragement, is to maybe email me some tracks that have feels/styles/voicings/soul that inspires you. I need to get a bunch of ideas on feels and tones I need to capture.

Also, the night of the tracking (I'll let you know what the date ends up being) I could sure use a crew of people to help me capture the right 'vibe'. Mikey, I really would love it if you were there to help hype me up.

After we do the initial drum tracking, I'm scheduled to come to Gadgetbox the first week in October to work with Andy on a Mudbucket-style mixdown. Should be very exciting.

I need to go buy drumsticks.

uH!

Call me crazy but I kinda would spend the rest of my life trying to play this style of music live with a band and simultaneously trying to pull similar style visuals on the fly. I really dig.

Paul Sweet Shows

Yo me and Andreas are getting ready to go up to Steve's in Zayante and set up for the 2nd Ho Down of this year. Should be really fun, Andreas, we need to ask him about that Japanese arcade game, and maybe film it.

So anyways, here's the skinny with the upcoming Paul sweet shows and what we need to do to pull them off:
SEPTEMBER 8TH

THE HARSHMELLOWS
-and-
THE SERENDIPITY PROJECT
8pm $2 entry $1 beer
live art

Things we need to do:
Contact the live artists
Make flyers/print flyers/distribute flyers
Figure out the PA situation
contact security/make large security t-shirts for the burly guys to wear
make some ArKaos sets to VJ (think hip hop shit, wildstyle, breakdancing, ect)

SEPTEMBER 22nd

STRENGTH (pretty confirmed)
SUGAR & GOLD (confirmed)
THE HARSHMELLOWS (confirmed)
THE WALKING DEAD (confirmed)
5 DAYS DIRTY (50% confirmed)
DJ SUBLIMINALZ (not confirmed)
K-FLAY (not confirmed)
HAROOT (confirmed)

2 STAGES!
(BIG room/paul sweet parking lot)

Live art/Glassblowing/Visuals (pretty confirmed)

Things we need to do to make this happen:
Confirm all the partially confirmed guests
Book round the clock parking duty/maybe even a shuttle from Toys'R Us?
Make sick flyers and get em out before August 30th (theres a house party august 31st with harshmellows and serendipity project, it would be great to get flyers out to everyone with all the confirmed details)
Hire more security than at the 8th
have a change box with change in it
set up another glassblowing area/live spary art outside
Get the Dual PA situation under control
Have lots of hands around to help

guerilla drive in

hey I need to reiterate Millz point that we should be involved with the guerilla drive in. we have bomb movies and a lightshow as well as a venue, three things the guerilla drive in desparately needs... I have plenty of of double feature matinees with shorts to play in between... I don't know how but it seems like if we had a place for people to sit down, we could actually charge or at least sell drinks... we really need to start making some money if we want to keep paying the menial bils (cords and eventually bulbs etc)

I want to show Wild in the Streets and Rock & Rule, two short animated pieces and a newsreel, like in the day...

I dunno, just wanted to mention because I think it was an important thought and millz, I back thee up, sorry I didn't have time to see you today, shrink meeting... -see you tomorrow hopefully, I don't have your number any more because my phone exploded. -my new ones the same number though... give me a call

This song fucking SLAYYYYYYS

But the video is just OK. It has it's moments, but I know we could do better. It was shot in my neighborhood, which is kinda cool. But whatever, just crank them speakers and get down.

Last Night At My House

big sur

hey I drove up to morro bay and back down the coast through big sur and camped at the beach along the way. I tested out my camera, getting road shots and even got some under water stuff, but the housing didn't work properly and let salt water into the camera, nearly destroying it, so I quit early.. I got some gold at the aquarium, lots of sweet jelly fish. I think we need to get agler fully clothed in his suit, probably with the pink shirt he has, under water in in a pool swimming and dancing. -we could even layer the frames on top of each other so he's with jelly fish and salmon and shit.. kind of out of time, but I'm not against even making this video (and spending more time on it) for one of our own songs... -It loks good enough that we shouldn't abandon it even if we run out of time...

I'm stoked millz, see you monday unless I have a lot of shit to do then tuesday, just hit me up...

more people

yo so the two people i think should be added to the massive if they so desire are aeneas in San francisco and our own Ry aggler in SC. these kids have alot to offer to what is going down. and i think we should define massive exchange real soon.

MX VJ's meet GDI

hey kids its mike over here on an extended stay in Brooklyn. I was just reading up on the latest with the guerilla drive in and their protest against the homless laws. I see the MX Djs playing the GDI intermissions. wholeheartedly. i need to get back to the sweet to create patches for myself. but consider it. i think GDI's are bi-monthly. lets rock the local guerilla open space takeover. i will be back in the cruz monday.

MASSIVE SALMON ... OH CHRIST!!! GOD YES lets do this

So anyways... I'm sure you all are well aware of the most hyhptasticbombastichotstepping-hotstepper thing in the world SINCE Ini Kamozie (and his amazing hit song'Hot Stepper' which is

The Chemical Brothers - The SALMON DANCE

but christ, for those of you who have not heard it yet put on some flippers, strike your best fizzhface you bump the tune

Sooooo... anyways now that you and all your friends are up to speed..
The Chemical Brothers are

A.) Touring and playing dates in San Fran, LA (at nocturnal), and Brooklyn

B.) The Chems are having a fucking REEEMMIIX contest currently

the song files are available here

Deadline is the 24th for all submissions on their myspace. We should aim to be done by the 22nd just in case

So yo... to the massive, let's just make the sickest collaborative music-video-remix-rad-paul-sweet-big-room-drumming-projection-fest ... WITH SALMON

I can start working on the remix itself right away. Agler has requested to have me make a post to rally the troups to make any and or all of the following

-Salmon suits
-Paper mache fish masks
-Projections in arkaos of rivers, salmon, underwater tripiness, fish eggs, salmon, hyphy kids

It seems like a fun last minute project that we can all collaborate on and be really wild and try and promote our science with. I know that if we post that as our remix entry that at least SOMEONE will take SOME kind of notice. Anyways should we pick a date to tenatively film this? How long will it take to slap a sloppy edit together of it? Sometime this weekend? Give me a call Andreas and we'll set something up if your down with the idea.

Now float up stream you fishies!
It'll be like this but only with fish suits

rock- artoo out.

Sunday, August 12, 2007

you think you can drum?

you think you know what rock and roll is? this is one hyphy mofo, give him a chance.

T-SHIRTS, massive exchange will need them, and money for them

niche t-shirts sell for 30-60 dollars. lets make super high quality t-shirts in low-volume and sell them to rich americans and japs online... jem t-shirts go for 50 bucks on auctions alone, we should make some simple outline shirts or even get into thinking about a press. I wouldn't mind setting up a store online if I had some help getting them made, and I know we can find either a silkscreener (better quality, more work) or even make a press (check out the video below, easier to make cause its like stamp ons...

if nothing else, sell jesus shirts, sure theres the stamp on crap jesus shirts, and they sell too; but fashionable christian clothing i'm sure is in higher demand than almost anything else...

just throwing it out there.

august 4th video

yeah bitches, here it is

thats hot...

Evan if and when you have some time at the GRL

hey this this is my virgin post but and i wish it could be on a better note but basiclly a really dope graff writer and a good friend to alot of writers in san diego including myself just passed away in the last week from diabetes and left a wife and 2 kids in the world. so I was hoping that you (Evan) could take a minute to look over this graphic and see if you could convert it into a stencil. I will be back in NY tuesday and would love to put my full effort towrds it then as well. i would also like to possibly get some acetate to lazer it on because of durability.

radioforpeople.org, paul sweet radio?

okay I cannot stress, how big of a deal this is. guys, the fcc is giving us the chance to become a legitimate media outlet. the pirate life is going to die, read the sentinal. its time. and not just here, everywhere. show people who have resources to start a radio station before its too late, because from now on the rules are, do what you want: as long as the masons know, -its cool...

"the fcc provides the one week window for the community groups to file station applications

this is a once in a generation oppertunity. the fcc is offering a one week window, oct 12-19 during which non profit community groups in the us can file for an application. this is huge, don't let it go without doing what we can.

Think for a moment what a powerful noncommercial radio station could do in your community... people forget that these are bublic airwaves, and the public is not getting access to them.

and right now, from coast to coast, from alaska, hawaii to florida to maine, people are organizing to reclaim the small portion of the public airwaves there are left. the october fcc application window for full power non commercial fm licenses is an opportunity to make a meaningful longterm contribution to your local media landscape - to help give a voice to the voiceless to carry on the fine tradition... check out getradio.org start your own community radio station, and wipe that smile right off rupert murdoch's face"

to agler, podcasts are a legistical nightmare, and radio is for murdoch, but this is the once chance you have for your show, if agler wants a show and gives a shit, this is how. if he doesn't fine, but basically this is the chance for whoever cares.

I dunno, its a big deal, it might sound confusing, but its not really, run you're own radio station, legit. thats about it, and the fcc wont bust you.

you need to be able to prove that you can support it for 3 months, they make it sound like its about money, that way they want you to think it costs 250'000 dollars, don't let that fool you. you need a place and an antenna, both things we either have or know where to get (for far less than it would cost for murdoch)

this could be self-sustaining as well, do you know how much you can get from sponsors like coffeeshops, venues and local stores? new leaf and staff of life, -all legal because this would be legit.

not to mention, bouncing signals from other stations in other towns, states or countries... people pay to have their show played in other areas they cant reach, -have the show streamed live (save maybe 30 seconds) to your station and broadcast it out, -totally legit, and fcc approved. -they pay big money for that, -thats how 91.9 survives (bbc)

sounds kind of interesting to me, we could have a reggae show in the trees, and then rent out a latino show, etc.

think about people who don't have this opportunity. A source for getting internet content broadcast on radiowaves is widely needed.

ask for new york, its good there too, you guys should do what you can or find someone you know to do it. this is probably much more significant over there where you have a larger population per foot ratio!
